How to use the Employee Evaluation Builder

A review that survives a dispute is criteria plus evidence, not adjectives. This page shows how the builder gets you there.

What this tool does

It assembles a structured evaluation for a finance role: criteria weighted to the job, rating anchors that define what a 3 versus a 5 actually means, an evidence log tying each rating to examples, and a sign-off flow for reviewer and employee. The output is a documented review, consistent across the team and defensible when challenged.

Who it’s for

Controllers and CFOs who run reviews without an HR function, and anyone who has had a rating challenged and reached for a file that did not exist.

How to use it. Step by step

  1. Pick the role. Criteria and weights start from a finance-role template you can edit.
  2. Anchor the ratings. Write one sentence for what each score means on each criterion.
  3. Log the evidence. Two examples per rating; this is the step most reviews skip and later regret.
  4. Run the sign-off. Reviewer and employee both sign the same document; disagreement gets recorded, not erased.

How to read the result

The score matters less than the trail. A 3 with two documented examples beats a 5 with none, in every conversation that ever gets difficult.

Common questions

Is this legally required? No, but documented, criteria-based reviews are what employment counsel asks for the day a decision is challenged. Build the file before you need it.

Does it store the reviews? They live in your browser unless you save or export. The document is yours.
